Getting Started

Learn how to add your first dishes, organize ingredients, recipes, tags, and attach appetizing photos.

Welcome to Minthee! Minthee is an offline-first companion designed to make home cooking simple and organized. Instead of endlessly scrolling through recipe apps or wondering “what should we make for dinner tonight?”, Minthee keeps your personal recipe library and helps you pick, plan, and shop.

1. Adding Your First Dish

To add a dish:

  1. Tap the + (Add Dish) floating button at the bottom of the Home screen.
  2. Enter the Dish Name (e.g., Lemon Herb Roasted Chicken or Creamy Mushroom Pasta).
  3. Select a Category such as Dinner, Lunch, Breakfast, Dessert, or create your own custom category.
  4. Give it an initial Rating from 1 to 10 (or leave it unrated to rate later after cooking).

2. Adding Ingredients

Minthee features a structured ingredient input:

  • Type an ingredient name (e.g., Garlic, Olive Oil, Penne pasta).
  • Optionally specify a quantity (e.g., 3 cloves, 2 tbsp, 500g).
  • As you type, Minthee provides auto-complete suggestions from ingredients you’ve used in past dishes to save typing.
  • Tap Add or press Return on your keyboard to instantly add it to the list.

Tip: You can reorder ingredients anytime by dragging them or edit quantities directly before saving.

3. Recipe Steps & Notes

The recipe box is a flexible markdown-friendly space:

  • Write out numbered preparation steps.
  • Add cooking temperatures, times, and technique tips (Bake at 200°C / 400°F for 25 minutes).
  • Note secret family tips, wine pairings, or preferred substitutions.

4. Tags & Organization

Tags let you group dishes across different categories:

  • Examples: #quick, #weeknight, #comfort-food, #vegetarian, #one-pot.
  • When searching or filtering, you can tap any tag chip to instantly see matching meals.
  • Pinned tags appear at the top of your search filters for one-tap access.

5. Adding Dish Photos

A picture is worth a thousand recipes!

  • Tap the Add Image box at the top of the Add/Edit form.
  • Select a photo using the native Android Photo Picker. No broad storage permissions are requested; your privacy is completely respected.
  • Minthee automatically compresses and scales the photo to keep storage lightweight and fast.
  • You can change or remove the photo whenever you want.

6. Personalize Your Cooking Goals & Kitchen Power

When you launch Minthee for the first time, an interactive onboarding experience guides your setup:

  • Dynamic Goal Selection: Select what matters most to your household: Save Money, Eat Healthier, Learn New Recipes, or Cook More Often.
  • Kitchen Power Meter: As you choose your goals and cooking rhythm, Minthee calculates your personal kitchen readiness profile.
  • Sample Recipes: Choose whether to start with a built-in collection of authentic recipes across international cuisines or begin with a clean slate. You can manage or delete sample dishes anytime from Settings.
